Creating hairstyles for underwater scenes also required major innovation—Friend and her team discovered traditional gels and sprays failed in water, creating cloudy effects on the camera. Instead, they developed a custom glue-thinned hairspray and secured styles with triple rubber bands to ensure the hair maintained its shape underwater.
